Ethiopia or America

We were having a heart to heart with Abenezer the other day about Ethiopia and America.  He told us that he wishes that Ethiopia was next door and that we could go with him to Ethiopia and then all of us come back to America and that we could go back and forth.

He is doing very well but at times we still see the adjustment that is going on inside his heart and mind.

He had another stressed sweating spell the other morning when he had to wait to eat because of his tb meds. ( he has to wait an hour after he takes them)  He was pouring sweat and was again, very stressed to not be able to eat.  He hates to be hungry.  He gets very anxious about food when he is.

It makes me sad.

Shoe Donation

This really touched me...this is a picture of real Christ like living...be it small church, big church, or your own personal life.

After watching it, I asked myself, what would I have done?

especially if the shoes I had on were my favorites or new ones? Would I have wanted to run home and get my 'old keds' to give instead of the new ones on my feet? Or would I have willingly and ungrudgingly given without any regard to myself?

Visits With Old Friends

We recently got to catch up with some friends from when Ab was at Hannah’s Hope.  We had a good time meeting again..and I really wish we were closer to everyone…At least we are on the way to DC and the beaches! (Hint Hint to everyone else!)

Catching up with The Buckles family that we traveled with to pick up our children.  Neat godly family that I really wish lived closer…They were both a calm to my soul as I picked up Ab without my husband there with me!  And John was the first to think that Ab was probably older than we thought!  He was right!  Now, if I can just get them to move to Va and plant a church :)

Karey and I ‘met’ online while waiting to find out if we would make court before it closed last year.  Our emails consisted of “have you heard anything yet?”  We really hoped to travel together, but she ended up traveling a week after me.  Really wish we lived closer!

It’s amazing how this journey of adoption can draw you to people you have never officially met but feel like you know each other really well.  I have so enjoyed the families across the states that this road has connected me to!

Letter from Ethiopia

We received a letter from Ethiopia 2 days ago with a burned disc of these videos. They are christian worship videos of a pastor/singer in Ethiopia that is popular.

Ab said they would watch these at Hannah's Hope and that with the second video, all the kids would jump up and down and do the worship motions with them. Ab was very excited to see them and wanted to watch them over and over.

On a funny note, Ab's friend wrote him a letter and said that "when I saw your picture, I am so glad because you have a big change, you came very tall anyways, you look good otherwise."

Fourth of July

Ab had several first this past weekend.  First 4th of July, first funnel cake, first sparkler, first 4th parade…..

We tried to explain the 4th to the best of our ability…Rachel told him it was when the emancipation confirmation was signed (apparently we need to work on american history a bit!)

We had a great fourth hanging out at The Frontier Culture Museum (where Bekah volunteers) and then at friends’ house.

Quote of Ab on the fourth:

Ab at the 4th: "Mom, I need to go home, I'm frisky" Me (laughing of course) : " you mean freezing?" Ab: "no, frisky, like when you want a drink!" Me: "thirsty!"

Yard Sale for Grassroots Heroes

This past Saturday we held a yard sale to benefit an organization that we are on the board of, called, Grassroots Heroes International .  GHI’s goal is to feed, nurture and equip the vulnerable of Zambia.

We collected stuff from people for several weeks and was given leftovers from 2 other yard sales.  We had ALOT of items!

It was a busy day with lots of people and we made over $1400!  Amazing!  What really blessed my heart was when someone would buy a quarter item and give $10 or $20.  It’s a blessing that our excess (which we have a lot of!) can be sold for a dollar here and a dollar there and make that much money, to help those who don’t have the basic necessities of life.  If you would like to also help the people of Zambia or see more about it, go to www.grassrootsheroes.org

All the clothes!  At the end we were selling a 13 gallon trashbag full for $3!

A fashion show a the end of the day!
