Christmas Time

Christmas was quite a bit different this year. First year without Greg’s mom, still grieving and coping with Dad’s loss, and a lot of either things that threatened to take joy from us. There is so much loss and heartache in our family and with our friends around us. It was overwhelming at times.

A lot of processing going on here in our home and I was having trouble getting motivated to do anything..much less prepare for Christmas.

Thankfully, we know the true meaning of Christmas and that it’s not about gifts, cookies, decorations…but JESUS…so thankful for His peace and His joy.

Here are some snapshots of Christmas this year.

Caroling with friends

My Santa :)

Our Christmas tree bit the dust. so we started a new tradition. torch the tree Christmas morning.

Visiting with cousins..

A friend had sent these luminaries last year to use to send up in remembrance of Greg’s mom. We were able to use the Christmas evening and send them up for Greg’s mom and my dad.

After the first one we realized we weren’t going to burn the neighborhood down….we had a special time sending them up.

Thank you Kathy!

May all of His peace and joy be yours!

The world lost a good man late Tuesday night—while we hated to let him go—we are so thankful that he is whole and pain free and rejoicing in Heaven.

This song was one of his favorites and we played it at the service celebrating his life.

Welcome Home Dad.

Happy Birthday Bekah!

17? How in the world did that happen?

(don’t judge me…I had toxemia and was actually looking good here in comparison to the day before)

I am thinking about all those people who told me the years would fly by while I had 3 wee ones and I snorted and thought “yea, right”.

Well, they were right!

Happy Birthday Rebekah!  I can’t wait to see what plans God has for your life as you serve Him and others!

Bieber Fever

We are not big Bieber fans as I prefer other types of music to fill our minds…

(though Josh did go through a phase where he looked like him for a while and his sister teased him unmercifully for it)

But every time T hears the start of Baby he comes running.

He has Bieber Fever.

Happy 2nd Birthday T!

Happy Birthday to the little guy who has blessed our world!

Who has grown tremendously and keeps us running…..

He tells us to ‘hang on’ and ‘come here’ more times than I count each day……

who loves Elmo, dad’s truck, and the big orange tractor and will pitch a fit if he hears either start and he’s not there…..

Happy Birthday to a little man who loves all ‘nummy’ food and shares oh so well with the dog…..

and likes to throw everything…

and makes us laugh every single day….

and whose new found joy is getting a big gulp of water, finding the dog, spitting it on him and rubbing it in.

Happy Birthday little guy.

We are so glad that you are part of our family.

Fun Times

Leave a baby for a while with a cup of milk—you may end up with this:

And if you hear him yelling ‘shabundy” over and over….it really means that has taken the wet coffee grounds out of the trash and rubbed them all over your couch.

And Greg and I have never been so proud of Rebekah to end up on Duck Dynasty’s Look-A-Like site. Page 9. My daughter. Dressed like Si.

A gem this girl is. :)

This is what she does on Fridays while we are at co-op….instead of studying for her CLEP tests.

Yep.  Just an average day at our house.

Meeting T’s Mom

From Greg:

As Rebekah and I approach the end of our flight and the first Project HOPEFUL FIG Awassa trip, I'm thinking about all of the people we met, homes we visited, and how we were able to catch a glimpse of their lives and the daily challenges that I can't imagine how I would cope with.   These stories will be coming as I get them down on ‘paper’.

One of the biggest blessings of our trip is that we had the pleasure of meeting with Teshale's mother.  A beautiful woman whose story makes our hearts ache.

We are so thankful that she had the courage to come.

Adoption is beautiful and a gift to us..but it comes with such heartache to others. Circumstances and pain that is hard to comprehend and is quite often completely unfair.

Here is a glimpse into that meeting:

sharing pictures of Teshale:

Telling her that her son is beautiful just like she is.

A beautiful woman who has now become part of our family.

(thank you to Joel for capturing this moment!)
