Bekah told me I needed a light-hearted post so here you go. This the many faces of Bekah. I never know which one is going to show up in our house!

Baby E and some GREAT coffee

A couple of weeks ago I heard about a very special girl from our agency.  Her story captured my heart right from the beginning and when I saw her beautiful face, the grip tightened even more.  My heart was pulled to the point of crying over her and asking my husband if we were the ones to pursue her adoption (we’re not) but we are to advocate for her.

Here is her story from our agency:

Her Story:

Baby E was born on February 15, 2012 in a remote village in Ethiopia. Very little is known about E’s family; her birth mother left her at a medical clinic immediately after her birth.

Baby E was born with a condition known as a parasitic twin, a form of conjoined twinning in which the second twin does not fully develop and does not survive. In Baby E’s case, this has resulted in her having two extra legs at her right hip, and two additional, partially developed hands. Other than her significant limb differences, Baby E appears to be completely healthy: her primary two legs are fully formed and appear functional; her upper body is not involved.

IAN is honored to be entrusted with Baby E’s care. While finding the very special adoptive family this very special girl will need is important, taking care of her medical and physical needs takes first priority. Until an adoptive family is found, IAN gladly takes responsibility for pursuing her medical care. Every available treatment will be sought for Baby E in order to ensure that has the opportunity to achieve her fullest potential and minimize the impact of her limb differences.

Currently the top specialists in the country are currently reviewing Baby E’s case to determine how they can help her. IAN is working with embassy officials and the Ethiopian government to bring her to the US for surgery.

The expenses associated with Baby E’s care will be significant; travel to and from Ethiopia for treatment, foster care expenses, adoption costs, and of course medical treatment.

I wish that I could show you her picture, but trust me, she is beautiful and I know that God has something very special planned for her life and I am grateful that our agency was entrusted for her care.

Now..what can we do?

#1 We can be praying for her. That she gets the medical care that she needs and that she continues to be strong and healthy.

#2 That the perfect adoptive family for her can be found that will be equipped and able to handle her needs.

#3 We can help with the funds for her care.

  • You can do this by donating at http://www.internationaladoptionnet.org/ and put Baby E in the comment box.
  • Or by ordering some GREAT coffee at www.justlovecoffee.com/babye  and some exciting news is that today  and tomorrow (March 28 and 29) they are having a special of buy 3 bags and get 1 free  (Roast Master Days! Today and tomorrow- buy 3 bags, get 1 of Jason's choice free!)
    •   Just make sure you are in Baby E’s store when purchasing! They have great coffee!  Baby E’s fund received $5 for each bag you purchase!! (and receives credit for anything else you purchase!)

Just make sure you are in Baby E’s store when you are at the order page! It will have her name at the top!

My Wish

I have been doing a lot of “I wish” lately.

Things that I wish were different. In my small world and in the world at large and in my heart.

I wish that I could worship with complete abandonment…and complete desperation for God to move. I have seen it. and I want it. I seem to always hold a piece of myself back.

I wish that children weren’t thought to be like disposable cups—casually tossed aside and not cherished and loved.

I wish that compassion and needs made decisions in church or other organizations. not policies. (because you know, I don’t think Jesus checked in with temple policies when He decided to do His thing.)

I wish that I took more time to sit and play or just enjoy the moment. I can get so busy doing so much stuff that I forget to do that.

I wish that there was so much less heartache in the lives around me.

I wish each person was thought to be important based on the fact that they were created in God’s image.

I wish that people’s actions followed their talk.

I wish that I had all the funds I needed to give to all the things that touch/break my heart.

I wish that I judged less and loved more.

I wish that it was much quicker and cheaper to get back to Africa. :)

How about you?

What’s your wish?

Off to the playground…

I love this belly. And I pray that his mother knows he is cared for and is growing and healthy and strong now.

Swing time. I am not sure about this.

Well, maybe it’s okay.

IMG_4090

Okay. I like it.

You’re Already Amazing

The past couple days I have been reading the book You’re Already Amazing by Holly Gerth and am loving it!  It is really speaking to my heart and insecurities and lies that I believe. The lies that I need to be more like this person, more like that person, better at this, better at that. And…the best part is that she gives you practical ways to live that out and how to embrace who you already are.

Okay..so when I first looked in here I kinda groaned because I saw some exercises to do about what you are good at. I am the person that fails gifting tests. seriously. You know that kind you do at church? Well, last time I did one I stressed over questions and would go back and forth about what to answer and then once we were done…The test ranked me as a teacher LOW. Now, those of you who know me, that’s what I do! What I love. What feeds me. Especially teaching God’s Word to people who don’t know it. LOVE THAT.

and apparently I stink at it. according to that test. (after the service I went to our pastor and told him that he needs to take me off the teaching list because apparently I am not gifted at it. yep. I was bitter. Had a fit right there.)

Anyways. I ramble.

These exercises are different. They start from what you love, what pumps you up, what energizes you and starts from there.

She talks about (and I really do feel like I am just having a conversation with her!) ‘safe people’ and what is hindering you, what the next steps are and practical things to do.

Here is one quote from the beginning of the book that I loved:

Hey, you….

The one wondering if you’ve got strengths.

You do.

The one questioning if God really even wants to use you.

He does

You’ve got gifts to offer the world.

Things that are good and right and true.

No one else can make a difference like you can.

Like you already are

Dare to believe it.

Dare to receive it.

Stand tall, be strong, just go out here and be you

in your own wonderful way.

Today.
